The Family Information Service hold information about Ofsted registered early years and childcare providers, childcare as part of a school registration, childcare provision exempt from registration and those working in childcare.
This also includes prospective providers who are considering registering as a childcare provider.

Personal and special category data
The types of personal data we hold may include:
- full name
- provider address (including postcode)
- home address (including postcode)
- email address
- telephone numbers
- qualifications held
Data Controller
West Sussex County Council (WSCC) complies with the Data Protection Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It is registered as a ‘Data Controller’ with the Information Commissioner’s Office (Reg. No. Z6413427).

The legal basis for processing personal data
Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.
We have a statutory duty under section 12 of the Childcare Act 2006 to:
- provide information, advice and training to childcare providers
- provide information to parents/carers, of 0 to 25 year olds, on childcare
How we use your personal information
Our Privacy Policy determines how we use personal data and specifically to:
- secure sufficient childcare to improve the outcomes of all children and young people aged 0 to 17
- complete statistical returns to Government departments
- provide families with information on early years and childcare provision across West Sussex
- complete statistical responses to Freedom of Information requests
- share correspondence and relevant information as necessary
Who we share your information with
From time to time, West Sussex County Council are required to pass on some of this data to:
- other local authorities
- central Government departments, for example the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)
- agencies that are prescribed by law
- partner organisations signed up to our Data Sharing Agreements, where necessary, for example, district and borough councils
- Ofsted

Personal data will not be retained for longer than is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are collected.
