To be an abandoned vehicle, usually at least one of the following criteria applies:
- it has no registered keeper on the DVLA database and is untaxed - check vehicle tax online (opens in a separate browser tab)
- it has been stationary for a significant amount of time
- it has been significantly damaged, is run down or unroadworthy, for example, has flat tyres, missing wheels or broken windows
- it has been burned out
- the number plates are missing
If you feel a vehicle has been abandoned on the public highway, you can report it by following the below link to the relevant district or borough council where the vehicle is located.
