Looked after children
'Looked after children' are children who are subject to a care order (under Section 31 of the Children Act 1989). Applications must be made by the allocated social worker following consultation with the head of the virtual school at the local authority responsible for the child.
Previously looked after children
Previously looked after children are children who were subject to a care order but ceased to be so because they were adopted, became subject to a special guardianship order, residence order or child arrangement order. Applications should be made by the holder of the order and should be supported by a copy of the:
- adoption certificate
- special guardianship order (made under Section 14A of the Children Act 1989, as amended by the Adoption and Children Act 2002) confirming the details of the arrangements for the child
- residence order (made under Section 8 of the Children Act 1989) or child arrangement order (made under Section 12 of the Children and Families Act 2014) confirming the details of the arrangements for the child.
This includes children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
Evidence must be sent to the Pupil Admissions Team by the application deadline for allocation rounds and at the time of submission for in-year applications.
