West Sussex County Council Digital Strategy

Our vision for a more connected, inclusive and innovative future for our residents, businesses and communities.

In a rapidly changing digital world, we are embracing technology to improve the way we deliver services, focusing on making them easy to access, efficient and open to everyone in West Sussex.

Highlights of the strategy include:

  • enhanced access - plans for faster, more convenient access to council services online
  • inclusion for all - support for all users, ensuring all improvements and changes are open to everyone
  • safety first - measures to keep your information secure when using digital services
  • sustainability - using technology to protect our environment and support growth across West Sussex

This strategy reflects the input of residents, businesses and local partners. It sets out how we’ll work together to build a bright digital future.

Our new Digital Strategy describes how we’ll use technology to improve everyday life for our residents, businesses, and communities. This strategy focuses on making council services easier to access, more user-friendly, and efficient while ensuring everyone can benefit from the opportunities digital technology offers.

We take data security very seriously. All new digital platforms and processes will comply with the highest standards of data protection under GDPR. Robust cybersecurity measures are being implemented to safeguard personal information, ensuring the trust and privacy of our residents and staff.

Digital support through our 36 libraries is already available to residents and will continue to be available for those requiring help to adopt new technologies. Sessions with library Digital Volunteers are free and take place across the county.

The commitment to digital support is outlined in our Digital Inclusion, Access and Safety Partnership framework. This involves working in collaboration with a range of partners across the county with the aim of tackling the digital divide.

We recognise the risk of digital exclusion and are committed to ensuring no one is left behind. Support is available for residents who may find new technology challenging and those with disabilities.

The public computers in libraries have accessibility functionality. Library staff and Digital Volunteers can support residents with disabilities and different needs, and there are specialist support providers as part of the Digital Inclusion, Access and Safety Partnership.

No, all traditional routes of contact will remain in place. We are just expanding our offering to include more digital routes of contact for those wish to use them.

Yes, residents can access digital support in the following ways:

All our libraries have public computers that customers can use. Visit our libraries web page for more information about computer and internet access.

All library staff are trained to be able support customers with their digital enquiries and most libraries have Digital Volunteers who can offer one-to-one support. These sessions can be booked at any library.

You can find out about regular activities in libraries around the county on our what's on in libraries page.
