Request for traffic signals to be switched out.

1 Overview

You can request traffic signals be switched out (the process of turning off a set of lights, bagging them and displaying a sign to indicate that they are not in use) while work is carried out on the road.

The minimum notice period required for a switch out is 24-hours.

2 Cost

The costs for requesting a switch out are:

  • pedestrian crossing: £728.70
  • traffic signals junction: £949.70

You will need to provide a purchase order number when requesting the switch out.

4 What happens next?

A traffic signals engineer will attend both the switch off and switch on.

Should there be any delay at either stage of the switch out, you must phone us with a minimum of 2 hours' notice to rearrange the time. Failure to do this could incur further charges or result in the switch out being aborted.

If the site is unoccupied for the switch off the engineer will wait for 15 minutes and then call the site contact. If the call is unanswered a voicemail will be left, if possible. They will wait a further 15 minutes before making a final phone call to the site contact.

If no communication has been made after 30 minutes the engineer will leave the site, which could incur a charge for an aborted visit.
