Temporary suspension or relocation of bus stops

How to apply to have a bus stop suspended or moved to allow essential maintenance work or development to take place.

1 Apply

Where possible, applications should be made at least three weeks in advance. Please complete the application form below and, where possible, provide a traffic management plan.

Please supply individual bus stop identity details. Bus stop ID's can be found on Google (opens in a new tab) by clicking on the actual bus stop. All ID's are prefixed by WSX, for example, "wsxdgpag".

Each application must include contact details of your site agent and the location where the proposed works are taking place.

We will no longer be invoicing for works and instead be moving to a new system of payment. This will be achieved via our online portal. Your application will not be submitted until payment has been made.

If a bus stop suspension is no longer required or is delayed, it is the applicant’s responsibility to notify the Local Transport Improvements Team in adequate time to cancel. Failure to do so will result in a further charge relating to the application.

Permit requests will still need to go through our Streetworks team in the usual process. Please email street.works@westsussex.gov.uk to enquire about booking road space.

2 Payment

Why are we charging?

A charge is set by West Sussex County Council to assist with the administration of the bus stop suspension process and help recover costs associated with this process.

This fee will be non-refundable once the application has been submitted.

What is the fee?

Bus stops and bus stand suspensions are charged at £336 per stop. A charge will be made if failure to carry out the works within the agreed dates is not possible and new dates are required. Notice will need to be given to the Local Transport Improvements Team.
