Applications for secondary school places in West Sussex for September 2027 are now open. The easiest way to apply is online via our website. The process is quick and simple, and applicants receive an automatic confirmation when their application has been submitted.
Applications close on Saturday 31 October 2026. It is important that applications are made on time to give families the best chance of being offered one of their preferred schools.
Councillor Sam Raby, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Learning, said: “We want every child and young person in West Sussex to have access to a high-quality education that supports them to thrive and succeed.
“To make the process as simple as possible, all the information needed to make an application is available on our website. Additional support is available at our libraries across the county, and there is also the option to complete a paper application form if you do not have access to the online system.
“I would encourage parents and carers to read through all the admissions information carefully before making their application. It is also important to visit school websites or contact schools directly to find out more about their admissions arrangements and any open events for prospective students when deciding on their preferences.”
Free use of computers with internet access is available in all West Sussex libraries and parents and carers can visit and use them without booking. The library service also offers digital support, including help with completing online forms, on 0330 222 3455.
If you are unable to apply online, please request a paper form by calling 03330 142903. The Pupil Admissions Team can also be contacted via this number and can answer any questions about the admissions process before applications are submitted.
Important information to consider when making an application:
Parents and carers are strongly encouraged to apply for three schools and list them in order of preference.
Parents and carers need to select the catchment school, where applicable, as part of their application for it to be considered. If a preference school is selected that is not the nearest or catchment school, families may not receive help with transport. For more information, see our school transport pages.
Living in a school's catchment area does not guarantee a child a place at that school.
If you miss the deadline, you should still submit an application form, as a child will not automatically be allocated a school place.
