Newly Qualified Starters Programme
Information on applying for subsidised support for staff new to the early years and childcare sector.
If you have hired someone new since 1 April 2025, they may be eligible for the Newly Qualified Starters Support Programme.
Managers can apply on behalf of staff who meet all of the following criteria:
- have completed a level 2, level 3 or level 6 qualification
- have not previously worked in an early years and childcare setting
The programme provides subsidised support to help new starters begin their role with confidence.
If you are recruiting and considering newly qualified candidates, this programme can help you provide the right support from the start.
Applications are open until 31 March 2026. Make sure eligible staff are registered before this date.
The programme lasts for one year from the date of registration. The cost to join is £35, which is paid to West Sussex County Council.

These are from a package designed to support induction into the sector.

The Early Years and Childcare Advisory Team lead these one hour sessions. They aim to support practice, build confidence and strengthen commitment to the sector.
This offer is intended to support both employers and new team members.
To apply, complete the application form below. You will need:
- the name, level and completion date of your employee’s qualification
- a qualification checker result to confirm the qualification is full and relevant
- a scan or photo of the qualification certificate, or an email from the tutor (sent from the training provider’s business email address) confirming successful completion, including the name, level and date of the qualification
- a bank card to make the £35 payment to West Sussex County Council
