Childcare sufficiency

Find out about childcare sufficiency and view the West Sussex Childcare Sufficiency report, which is a means to identify the availability of and demand for childcare

Local authorities in England have a legal duty to secure sufficient childcare for working parents or parents who are studying or training for employment, as far as is reasonably practicable. These duties are set out under the Childcare Act 2006.

Childcare sufficiency assessment

Each year, we update and publish a childcare sufficiency assessment. This document uses information from a range of sources to identify possible gaps in childcare provision.

The annual childcare sufficiency assessment can support new providers to identify where there is likely to be a demand for childcare and what type of childcare is most needed. It also informs local planning to ensure ongoing sufficiency of childcare.
