The Children First Board gives children and young people the opportunity to shape the services that affect their lives. The board meets 4 times a year.
Those involved are:
- young people from different backgrounds, including care-experienced young people, young carers and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
- professionals from West Sussex County Council and partner organisations
Everyone has an equal say. It’s about working together and learning from each other.
The Board:
- talks about the issues that matter most to children, young people and families
- shares ideas and experiences to help improve services
- helps shape county-wide plans, like the Children and Young People’s Plan
- works on themes like belonging, health, education and safety
Being part of the Children First Board is a great way to:
- build your confidence in speaking and sharing ideas
- learn teamwork and leadership skills
- meet new people and make friends
- gain experience that looks great on your CV or personal statement
- make a real difference to services in West Sussex
As a thank you for your time, we also offer vouchers to young people who take part.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 9 December 2025. The subject is yet to be confirmed.
