Children First Board

Find out about the Children First Board and how you could get involved.

The Children First Board gives children and young people the opportunity to shape the services that affect their lives. The board meets 4 times a year.

Those involved are:

  • young people from different backgrounds, including care-experienced young people, young carers and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • professionals from West Sussex County Council and partner organisations

Everyone has an equal say. It’s about working together and learning from each other.

The Board:

  • talks about the issues that matter most to children, young people and families
  • shares ideas and experiences to help improve services
  • helps shape county-wide plans, like the Children and Young People’s Plan
  • works on themes like belonging, health, education and safety

Being part of the Children First Board is a great way to:

  • build your confidence in speaking and sharing ideas
  • learn teamwork and leadership skills
  • meet new people and make friends
  • gain experience that looks great on your CV or personal statement
  • make a real difference to services in West Sussex

As a thank you for your time, we also offer vouchers to young people who take part.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 9 December 2025. The subject is yet to be confirmed.
