Project Gigabit

The UK Government created Project Gigabit to bring gigabit-capable broadband to homes and businesses that commercial providers find difficult to reach.

Gigabit-capable broadband can support download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (1Gbps). This can provide faster, more reliable internet access and make it easier to stream high-quality video, make video calls, use online services and connect multiple devices at the same time.

Building Digital UK (BDUK), part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, delivers the programme nationally.

Following a national procurement process, BDUK appointed CityFibre to deliver Project Gigabit across West Sussex and East Sussex.

Some areas that were previously eligible for government-funded broadband upgrades are no longer included in Project Gigabit, as commercial providers plan to deliver gigabit-capable broadband services in those locations.

West Sussex County Council is working with Building Digital UK (BDUK) to understand the impact of these changes and explore options for areas that are no longer included in the programme.

If your property is no longer part of the current rollout, it may still be eligible for future government-funded broadband schemes.
