Growing Sussex
How technology can help growers
The project brings together local government, education and industry to test practical uses of digital technology. This includes 5G, connected sensors (known as the Internet of Things or IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI). These technologies can help growers make better decisions, use resources more efficiently and produce more.
Who is involved in Growing Sussex
West Sussex County Council is leading Growing Sussex. The project receives £3.8 million in funding from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
We work with partners across the county, including:
- Brinsbury College
- Plumtpton College
- The University of Brighton
- Boldyn Networks
- local growers and producers
Building digital skills for the future
By putting education at the heart of the project, we can help build a workforce that is confident using technology and data to make decisions. This applies whether people work in a greenhouse, a field or a vineyard.
As more people and businesses use these technologies, demand for reliable digital connectivity will grow. This encourages telecommunications providers to invest in better wireless networks for rural growing businesses.
