Families Do Digital Crawley

A digital inclusion project led by West Sussex County Council, supporting low‑income families in Crawley to access and use digital services safely and confidently.

About the project

Families Do Digital Crawley takes a whole-family approach to digital inclusion, recognising the links between technology access, digital skills and financial confidence.

The project brings partners together to deliver a practical, joined-up model that other areas can adopt. It helps families access the essentials of digital life, including:

  • help to access suitable digital devices
  • support to get reliable internet access
  • digital skills and online safety training
  • budgeting and financial guidance

Who the project supports

The project is supporting around 40 families in Crawley, representing approximately 140 people.

It aims to help them meet the Minimum Digital Living Standards so they can take part fully in modern society.

Partnership approach

Families Do Digital Crawley brings together Crawley Borough Council and local advice services.

West Sussex County Council Library Service digital champions provide digital skills and online safety training. Crawley Borough Council's Access Crawley team and Citizens Advice provide budgeting and financial guidance.

Outcomes and learning

By developing practical digital skills, families can carry out everyday activities online more confidently, such as:

  • accessing banking and financial services
  • shopping more affordably
  • applying for support
  • using public services more effectively

The project is contributing to the council’s wider understanding of what works in addressing digital exclusion, with a focus on approaches that are practical, scalable and informed by lived experience.
