Processes and procedures

Primary school - North of county.

Objective

The primary school wanted to improve how they support pupils of concern by focusing on being proactive instead of reactive.

Actions

After completing the 3-day Therapeutic Thinking training, tutors worked on creating clear systems and processes for staff to follow.

They updated the internal referral forms to include a section where staff had to show how they followed the graduated approach. This included using the West Sussex Ordinarily Available Inclusive Practice (OAIP) document and other available support tools.

The Senior Leadership Team added the Therapeutic Thinking Early Prognosis tool to the school’s Behaviour and Wellbeing Policy. They trained staff and held termly update meetings to make sure all class teachers could use the tool effectively as part of the assess, plan, do, review cycle.

Impact

Staff now follow a more consistent approach when supporting pupils. Everyone shares a clearer understanding of the processes in place.

Next steps

The Senior Leadership Team sees policies and procedures as ongoing work. They plan to keep improving how they monitor behaviour and wellbeing across the school.
