Details of duties
All rural Public Rights of Way are inspected by West Sussex County Council (WSCC), with assistance from volunteers, on a 15-month cycle, on a parish-by-parish basis.
As a Parish Path Inspector you will:
- walk allocated paths - your assigned route which you will need to walk will be between approximately 15-25 kilometres
- report on condition of paths and structures such as steps, bridges and signage
- return the completed report to the Access Ranger by the end of the month
- be assigned either one, or multiple parishes, therefore the inspections for individual volunteers may be irregular
Training and equipment
Volunteer Parish Path Inspectors will be given full training before beginning the inspections and will carry out an inspection with the Access Ranger before inspecting alone.
Volunteers are not expected to provide their own equipment; the Volunteer Co-ordinator will provide all required inspecting equipment and PPE.
