Our roles

  • Under the guidance of a senior professional or team manager, act as a representative for the service by:

    • working with a focus on delivering services to those people who access or need them
    • acting with integrity, professionalism and respect on behalf of the organisation
    • ensuring at all times that the needs of individuals are paramount.

    Also to:

    • deliver a professional service and operate in accordance with Social Work England professional standards
    • assess, plan, implement and review packages of care and ensure the effective implementation of departmental policies and procedures in accordance with statutory requirements
    • develop a good knowledge of all relevant services in the area and establish effective working relationships with service providers within the statutory, private and voluntary sectors
    • provide advice and guidance to those people who access or need the service - this may include participating in an access point/duty system under guidance
    • report any allegation or suspicions of abuse or potential abuse of a vulnerable person to an immediate manager or supervisor
    • contribute to safeguarding investigations and child/adult protection planning, where requested.
  • We recruit a number of Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) on an annual basis to join us and commence the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). Your journey starts with us by applying around March and we usually expect our NQSWs to join us from September.

    As Newly Qualified Social Workers, you are provided with a full Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE), which includes academic modules jointly delivered with our local partner university. These modules are specifically designed to provide the right support at the right time and are accredited at post graduate level.

    We are proud to have an established programme in growing and developing our own Social Workers by providing the tools, knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this challenging yet rewarding career.

  • Act as a professional representative for the service by:

    • working with a focus on delivering services to those people who access or need the service
    • acting with integrity, professionalism and respect on behalf of the organisation
    • ensuring at all times that the needs and voice of individuals are paramount.

    Deliver a service and operate in accordance with Social Work England professional standards and remain responsible for maintaining appropriate registration with Social Work England.

    Prepare and work with individuals, families, carers, groups and communities to:

    • assess their circumstances, needs and outcomes
    • implement creative packages of care, drawing on a range of formal and informal or community-based resources
    • evaluate and monitor progress against the outcomes the person wants to achieve, considering best value support options.
  • Demonstrate experience and/or provide evidence of dealing with a wide range of issues and complex situations, using highly developed analytical skills to provide solution-focused and resource efficient options. These include:

    • good assessment skills, including risk management and the ability to ensure regular reviews with a variety of individuals, carers or families
    • effectively prioritising work and meeting deadlines
    • effective partnership working with those who access or need the service and maintaining a focus on the needs of the individual while handling conflict and disagreement
    • forming effective working relationships within a multi-agency/multidisciplinary setting
    • working with those who access or need the service to identify issues and identify specific action by means of creative and pragmatic solutions.
  • Expected to:

    • be working at senior social work level or higher
    • have relevant, advanced theoretical social work concepts and practices
    • have detailed organisational knowledge relating to the provision of a professional social work service dealing with very complex health, social care and safeguarding issues
    • have a breadth of understanding of the therapeutic interventions that can be used
    • have an excellent understanding of our partnership agencies, including health, housing, education, statutory, voluntary and the independent sector
    • have knowledge of management strategies in order to confidently manage internal and external issues.
