Fire Cadets

Fire Cadets is a youth initiative run by West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service's Targeted Education Team fire service volunteers.

Fire Cadets is a nationally recognised programme which offers young people aged 13 to 17 the opportunity to gain essential social, life, work and wellbeing skills including a Level 1 qualification.

Using the dynamic environment of the fire station and the local community, the aim of our work is to promote social and emotional development in young people. This is achieved through a diverse range of enriching, enjoyable, and engaging activities that are inspired by the role and responsibilities of a firefighter.

Fire Cadets participate in practical and theoretical fire and rescue service activities, including hose drills, breathing apparatus procedures and fire safety awareness sessions.

Fire Cadets provides fun and challenging opportunities for young people to reach their full potential contributing to safer, stronger and healthier communities.

We will meet for two hours per week on Tuesday evenings between 6.00pm to 8.00pm at Bognor Fire Station, during term time.

Why should I join Fire Cadets?

From firefighting drills, first aid training and getting to grips with using real firefighting equipment, you’ll become part of the fire service family in your cadet uniform. You will represent the service in your community and make new friends.

You’ll learn lots of new skills like team working, communication and leadership and improve your health, fitness and general wellbeing.

With Fire Cadets you’ll gain confidence and boost your self-esteem, by knowing you are making a real difference in your local community, supporting social action projects and volunteering.

You will also build valuable application and interview skills and have great experiences to add to your CV.
