Gamification and violent extremism course details

Description

This training will explore the online space in regards to radicalisation and extremism, with a focus on what could make a person vulnerable to online radicalisation.

It will explore how extremist groups use the online gaming space, and make use of gaming approaches for recruitment and radicalisation.

Delivery method

Face-to-face or online through Microsoft Teams.

Intended audience

Aimed at all services including schools, universities, colleges, and children and adult services.

Length of input

From 1 hour to 2 hours.

Intended outcome of delivery

• Demonstrate an understanding of what could make a person vulnerable to online radicalisation.
• Identify the role you can have in countering online radicalisation.
• Identify how extremist groups use the online space for recruitment and radicalisation.
• Identify how to report any concerns.

Signs and symbols course details

Description

This session explores the strategy and referral process, alongside a local picture of Prevent in West Sussex, common signs that may indicate radicalisation into extremism, groups to be aware of, an exploration of the online space and how this can play a role in radicalisation.

Face-to-face or online through Microsoft Teams.

Intended audience

Aimed at schools, universities, colleges, districts and boroughs.

Length of input

From 45 minutes to 2 hours.

Intended outcome of delivery

• Increased awareness of key signs that are important to be aware of, both online and offline.
• Increased understanding of local and national extremist ideologies and narratives.
• Knowledge of key symbols relevant to extremist narratives.

Preventing radicalisation and violent extremism course details

Description

This session explores the factors that can lead to extremism by identifying the links between vulnerability and radicalisation. The seminar will better equip you to be able to support people who might be susceptible to radicalisation, ensuring that individuals are diverted before any crime is committed.

Face-to-face or online through Microsoft Teams.

Intended audience

Hosted on the West Sussex County Council Learning and Development portal. Aimed at all WSCC services and partner agencies.

Length of input

1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Intended outcome of delivery

• Demonstrate a better understanding of the links between vulnerability, radicalisation and safeguarding.
• Identify and access the available processes that support people susceptible or vulnerable to extremism.
• Demonstrate an understanding of potential opportunities where guidance or intervention may be appropriate.

Preventing radicalisation and violent extremism (refresher) course details

Description

This session is for West Sussex County Council staff and partner agencies who have attended the 'Preventing radicalisation and violent extremism' course in the past and require an update to ensure that they have a current and relevant understanding of the Prevent agenda and what it means to professionals within West Sussex.

Hosted on the West Susssex County Council Learning and Development portal. Aimed at all WSCC services and partner agencies.

• Effectively access the Prevent referral process to gain support for people susceptible or vulnerable to extremism.
• Recognise some localised key signs and symbols often associated with radicalisation into violent extremism.

Recognising racism course details

Description

This session seeks to support delegates in exploring the concept of racism in its many forms and impacts in order to best support you to begin to identify what being anti-racist can mean in practice.

Aimed at children and fostering services.

• Demonstrate an increased awareness of the role racism plays in our day-to-day lives.
• Identify some of the key forms of racism.

Recognising racism (for schools) course details

Description

The session provides schools with an opportunity to explore some key aspects of racism and how it operates, its impacts on us and what needs to be considered and explored in order to begin to tackle it.

Face-to-face and online.

Intended audience

Aimed at schools.

Length of input

30 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.

Intended outcome of delivery

• Explore the concept of racism in its many forms and impacts, and begin to identify what being anti-racist means.
• Raise understanding of how racism impacts on our daily lives and look at how this provides privileges for some whilst disadvantaging others.
• Explore modern inequalities, sources of prejudice and the impacts this can have on identity.
• Begin to explore the importance of challenging racism in ourselves and others.
