As part of the Government's next steps in the Living with COVID-19 Plan, free testing for the general public ended on 1 April 2022.
Free COVID-19 tests will continue to be available to help protect specific groups however. These include:
- patients in hospital
- people eligible for COVID-19 treatments (you will be contacted directly)
- NHS and adult social care staff and those in other high-risk settings.
Buying a COVID-19 test
You can buy a COVID-19 test from some pharmacies and retailers in person, or online using the GOV.UK links below:
- Finding and choosing a private coronavirus (COVID-19) test provider
- List of general population COVID-19 testing providers
Do not call 119 or try and order from the portal unless you are in the eligible high-risk group as you will not be able to get a test this way. You cannot order tests from NHS 111 or 999.
