District Youth Councils

Information about each youth council and how to contact them.

1 Overview

There are youth councils in some of the districts in West Sussex. They allow young people to voice their opinions on local issues and projects, and are taken into account when local decisions are being made.

2 Arun Youth Council

The Youth Council is made up of young people aged between 11-19 who live, work or go to school or college in the Arun district.

Our aim is to increase awareness of local decision making, to give our views to the people that make the decisions and to make a difference in our community. We have 2 meetings  a year which are open to all members and further meetings throughout the year to plan and carry out specific projects and activities. Every November we hold a debate as part of the national Takeover Challenge and hold a Youth Community Award Scheme to recognise the contribution of young people in the area.

The best way to find out about what we are doing is through your school council or contact us to get involved.

3 Crawley Young Persons Council (CYPC)

If you are aged between 11-25 and live in Crawley you can nominate yourself to be on the Crawley Young Persons Council. Elections take place every 2 years and we meet once a month in the Town Hall or at a venue in the town centre.

This year the youth council will focus on:

  • racism
  • knife crime
  • mental health support
  • drug and alcohol awareness
  • vaping in schools.

The Youth Council will be filming a new promotional video holding a youth question time in November 2023.
