Key actions for parents, special guardians and carers

Key actions for parents, special guardians and carers

  • If you consider it appropriate to do so, inform the education setting of your child’s status.
  • In order for education settings to claim pupil premium plus, you will need to provide them with proof of your child’s status if they were looked after by a local authority in England or Wales or in state care in another country before the Adoption, Special Guardianship or Child Arrangements Order was granted. If you choose not to share your child's status, the school will be unable to access the available funding and support.
  • Make links with the Designated Teacher (DT) for Looked-After and Previously Looked-After Children in the education setting. This teacher is often referred to as simply ‘the designated teacher’ or the DT.
  • Take part in any joint meetings with the education setting regarding your child so that their progress and any barriers to learning can be understood and supported. Request additional meetings if necessary.
  • Let the education setting know about any upcoming significant changes/dates/events that may affect your child, such as contact arrangements.
