Family learning in West Sussex

Family learning brings parents, grandparents, carers and children together to learn, grow and build confidence.

Family learning helps adults understand how children learn and develop, while building their own skills, confidence and knowledge.

This can help children develop, strengthen family relationships and create positive learning experiences at home.

Our sessions are friendly, practical and enjoyable. We use shared activities, discussions and everyday situations to help you find what works best for your family.

All our courses are free. You do not need any qualifications or previous experience to take part.

You can join courses in person or online. Some sessions are for parents and carers only, while others give you the chance to learn alongside your child.

We regularly update our programme, so check this page for new courses and upcoming opportunities.

Our courses

  • Supporting your child’s early development through play, everyday activities and preparing for starting school.

    Part of our Grow and Learn Together programme, helping families learn through play, shared experiences and everyday routines.

    Courses include:

    • roar and explore
    • little steps, big skills
    • nature explorers
    • mini movers
    • sing, say, play
    • once upon a playtime
    • play, taste and create
    • starting school

  • Helping you understand what your child is learning in school and how to support them at home.

    Courses include:

    • supporting your child with learning in reception and KS1
    • supporting your child with literacy (KS2)
    • supporting your child with Maths (KS2)

  • Helping you make sense of behaviour, routines and everyday family life, while building confidence in your parenting.

    Courses include:

    • understanding boundaries in family life
    • understanding routines in family life
    • supporting your child to build resilience
    • supporting your child’s confidence and self belief

  • Supporting you to understand teenage behaviour, communication and development.

    Courses include:

    • raising teens: an introduction to the teenage brain
    • raising teens: navigating the teenage brain

  • Helping you explore your next steps in learning, training, or employment.

    Courses include:

    • careers into childcare
