Legislation has been passed meaning you must now be at least 18 years old to marry in England and Wales.

Due in July 2023 (awaiting government action)

The Law Commission of England and Wales published results of a review and recommendations to reform the law around marriages in July 2022 and the government were due to respond to this in July 2023.

Recommendations include making the procedure to give notice more streamlined and changing where and who will be able to conduct wedding and civil partnership ceremonies. Proposals can be found on the Law Commission website.

Once the government have responded it may take some time for changes in legislation to be made.
