Seven new on-call firefighters have joined West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service after successfully completing their initial two-week training course.
On-call firefighters play a vital role in protecting their communities. Many balance their emergency response duties alongside full-time careers, responding to incidents from home or work when needed.
The new recruits live or work nearby to one of the service’s fire stations, ensuring they can quickly respond to emergencies in their area.
The new firefighters received their certificates at a pass out parade held at Platinum House in Horsham on Friday 22 May. The event was attended by their proud families and colleagues, with certificates presented by Director of West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, Sabrina Pennington-Down, and Area Manager for Service Delivery, Ady Carter.
Speaking after the event, Sabrina Pennington-Down said: “It’s a real privilege to welcome our newest on-call firefighters into West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.
“They have demonstrated great commitment, resilience and teamwork throughout their training, and should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved. I wish them every success as they begin their journey with us.”
Area Manager for Service Delivery, Ady Carter, added: “Completing the initial training course is a significant achievement, and these recruits have set a high standard from the outset.
“They have shown the professionalism, determination and community spirit that we look for in our firefighters. They are now ready to serve their communities, and I have no doubt they will become valued members of their crews.”
