Have your say on proposals for the relocation of Jessie Younghusband Primary School and the expansion of St Anthony’s Special School in Chichester.

West Sussex County Council is considering proposals for the relocation of Jessie Younghusband Primary School and the expansion of St Anthony’s Special School in Chichester.

The schools are currently located on the same site, close to the Whitehouse Farm/Minerva Heights development of new homes to the west of Chichester city centre.

The proposed options are to relocate Jessie Younghusband Primary School to the primary school site identified at the Minerva Heights development for it to become the local school for the development and wider community.  This would allow St Anthony’s Special School to expand into the building vacated by Jessie Younghusband, creating an additional 50+ special educational need places.

Also proposed is a review of the catchment area for Jessie Younghusband Primary School, Fishbourne C of E Primary School and Parklands Community Primary School to incorporate White House Farm/Minerva Heights and reflect Jessie Younghusband’s relocation (pupils currently on roll will not be affected).

Residents now have the opportunity to share their views on the proposals via an online consultation, which opened on 14 December and will run until 31 January 2024.

Councillor Jacquie Russell, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education said: “The proposals to relocate Jessie Younghusband school and expand St Anthony’s Special School present some very positive opportunities for us to develop both schools for the benefit of current and future pupils.

“The consultation is a chance for people to express their support for the proposals as well as voice concerns and offer constructive ideas on taking the plans forward.

“We are working closely with the schools involved and have communicated with parents and carers of pupils, as well as the wider community, to ensure that everyone is informed about these proposals and the consultation process.

“These proposals support our ambition to help children and young people fulfil their potential. We invite all residents to participate in the consultation and help us shape this project as it moves forward.”
