Formal consultation opens on proposals for the future of Chichester school

A formal consultation on proposals for the future of Jessie Younghusband Primary School in Chichester is now open.

The key proposal is to relocate the school from its current site to a new primary school being built on the Minerva Heights development.

This would enable St Anthony’s Special School, which currently shares a site with Jessie Younghusband, to expand into the vacated building and create additional school places for children with special educational needs.

Statutory notices detailing the proposal have been published and people are invited to make further comments from now until the four-week consultation closes on 16 May.

West Sussex County Council is inviting people to may make representation of further new comments and views, though please note comments cannot be a repeat of information or views already provided in the previous consultation that ran from December to January.

Full details of the proposal are available on our Your Voice webpages.

Further details about the decision on formal consultation are on the county council’s website.

Copies of the proposal can be requested by writing to: School Consultations, West Sussex County Council, Ground Floor, Northleigh, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1RH.

Anyone can make further comments on the proposal by emailing schoolconsultations@westsussex.gov.uk or via post at the address above.

Once the formal consultation closes, the county council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Learning and Skills will be asked to determine whether the relocation of Jessie Younghusband Primary School and the associated catchment changes should proceed.

Further work on proposals for St Anthony’s Special School will progress depending on the outcome of this decision.
