Essential road resurfacing set to start soon on A286 in Easebourne

"The new surface will be smoother, which will reduce road noise, and will be more resilient to potholes"

Release date: 13 September 2022

Essential resurfacing will soon be carried out on the A286 Dodsley Lane in Easebourne, between Hollist Lane and the A272 Easebourne Lane.

The current surface is showing signs of significant weakening: the new one will be smoother, which will reduce road noise, and will be more resilient to potholes.

Subject to unforeseen factors, such as severe weather, work will take place between 20 September and 27 September and hours of work will generally be between 8pm and 6am.

Dodsley Lane will be closed to through traffic and vehicles diverted via a signed route. Access to properties will be maintained, whenever possible, although there could be delays for operational and/or safety reasons.

A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “We don’t decide to carry out night-time resurfacing lightly. We have considered the wider disruption to communities and road users that would be caused through daytime work on these roads.

“Improvement projects of this nature do cause disruption for both residents and businesses, for which we apologise, but will lead to long-term benefits. Every effort will be made to try to minimise the inconvenience: for example, our contractor will try its best to carry out the noisiest operations in the earliest part of the evening and before 11pm.”
