A29 Pulborough upcoming road closure

The A29 Church Hill in Pulborough will be closed from Monday 20 April for 10 days between the junctions of Lower Street and Church Place to allow for essential safety work.

Release date: 9 April 2026

The county council’s highways team and contractors will be carrying out maintenance including clearing large amounts of vegetation that’s grown alongside the road and routine inspections of the banks either side of the road.

The road will have to be fully closed to move the concrete blocks for access to the banks and to ensure the safety of the team while onsite. Full details are published on One Network.

A diversion route will follow the A29 Billingshurst, A272, A24, and A283.

There will be no parking cones on New Place Road during the closure.

The council county is continuing to work towards a resolution following the landslip in 2023. At a court hearing in January, the landowners’ appeals to statutory notices requiring them to carry out tree work were dismissed. We are now working to secure a date for this work.

We are also continuing negotiate with the landowners for access that would enable testing of the ground and soil, which is essential for designing and planning and permanent solution.
