We are currently unable to accept any more volunteers due to the number we currently have assisting us.
Get involved
We have opportunities for people with a little time to spare to help us look after the county's heritage.
There are a variety of roles available and full training and support will be given.
We appreciate your interest and value the time and help that volunteers can give to West Sussex Record Office.
How to apply
If you are interested in any of the roles, and would like to be placed on our waiting list, please complete our online form:

The volunteering roles we currently offer are listed below. The roles will vary according to the work being done, but we have a general role description for volunteering in the Record Office.
Archives volunteer
Support the archivists in making the information held in the archives more widely accessible by box listing (using an Excel spreadsheet), transcribing, cataloguing and packaging.
The catalogues are eventually made available on our online catalogue, Search Online. Volunteers are based in our busy searchroom.
For more information contact us and ask for Jenny Mason.
Project volunteer
We have a few opportunities to work on our Quarter Sessions project. We need people who have, or wish to learn, palaeography skills (reading old handwriting) to transcribe information from the Quarter Sessions records. There may also be some opportunities for people with advanced computer experience to help with organising spreadsheets.
