Our roles

  • The role of the Business Manager for Children’s Residential Services is pivotal, supporting the Assistant Director for Corporate Parenting, Residential Services Lead and senior leadership team to ensure that an effective, efficient and professional service is delivered at all times.

    The postholder will support the management of the Children’s Residential Services budget through the monitoring and recording the service budget, including monitoring and reporting on individual homes budgets as well as management of the central maintenance budget.

  • As the Registered Manager you will be responsible for managing a team of skilled professionals, ensuring that they provide the highest standard of care to children.
    The role will involve the day-to-day management of the home ensuring compliance with the appropriate legislation, policies and procedures.

    • being a visible hands-on leader with the skills to build and maintain trust and rapport with children and staff
    • being a positive role model in your interactions with children and those around them
    • working collaboratively with all stakeholders to deliver ambitious outcomes for children, striving for continuous improvement in their social, educational and health development

  • As an Assistant Manager, you will work collaboratively with the Registered Manager and all stakeholders to assist with delivery of ambitious outcomes for children, striving for continuous improvement in their social, educational and health development.

    You will have key managerial areas of responsibility which include:

    • line management of a team of staff, ensuring that they provide the highest standard of care to children
    • deputising in the absence of the registered manager
    • supporting and assisting the registered manager in the day-to-day management of the time, ensuring compliance with the appropriate legalisation, policies and procedures.
  • This role reports to the Children’s Residential Service Business Manager and will support a small group of homes around a variety of financial support including providing an oversight of financial systems and ordering processes, in addition to, data gathering and processing regarding use of resources and services provided by the homes.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • being analytical with the ability to communicate with a range of customers both internal and external
    • being excellent at managing priorities and working to financial deadlines
    • being able to work independently and build strong working relationships with staff within the homes
    • being able to work well as part of a team and be child focused.
  • As a Team Leader for one of our residential homes in either Worthing, Shoreham or Haywards Heath, you will lead on key areas such as health and safety, training and supervision of staff, creating rotas and overseeing medication for children.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • playing a key part in new referrals to the home
    • leading and arranging activities around children’s needs
    • ensuring all children are safe with their emotional, physical, educational and social needs are met.
  • As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will become part of a high performing, incredibly welcoming, child-centred team that really makes a difference to children’s and young people’s lives.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • ensuring that children and young people who stay with us feel at home and safe with many opportunities for both fun and learning
    • managing challenging behaviour and provide personal care, which enables the children to maintain and improve their skills and daily lives

  • As a Residential Night Childcare Worker, you will ensure that all children’s and young people’s physical and emotional night care needs are met.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • helping children and young people settle into night-time and morning routines, such as washing, getting up in the morning and getting ready for bed
    • managing challenging behaviour and providing personal care, advice, assistance and support
    • enabling our children and young people to maintain and improve their skills and daily lives in line with individual care plans.

  • This role is to organise and run a commercial kitchen providing meals to staff and children within the home. To design and cook nutritionally balanced and appetising meals for the children. To undertake a variety of tasks which results in the operation of the home’s kitchen, including supervising other kitchen staff, cleaning and stock control.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • being a positive role model in your interactions with children and those around them
    • being familiar with, and adhere to, the values of WSCC and be compliant with key regulations, for example, Health and Safety/Safeguarding, standards and procedures
    • being physically able to undertake all the required cooking and cleaning aspects of the role
    • being able to work as part of a committed and dynamic team to achieve the shared goal of delivering consistent and outstanding care to children.
  • As a cook for our residential home, you will prepare and cook nutritionally balanced meals for the children.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • designing menus with the Assistant Manager and provide training to children in how to plan and cook meals
    • ensuring the kitchen is maintained to a high standard
    • keeping accurate records and stock control
    • direction and co-ordination of agency cooks and kitchen assistants.
  • As a cook for our residential home, you will prepare and cook nutritionally balanced meals for the children.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • designing menus with the Assistant Manager and provide training to children in how to plan and cook meals
    • ensuring the kitchen is maintained to a high standard
    • keeping accurate records and stock control.
  • This role is to assist the cook in cooking and preparing nutritionally balanced and appetising meals for the children. To undertake a variety of tasks which results in the operation of the home’s kitchen, including cleaning, washing up, preparing food, stock rotations, keeping records, for example, temperature checks.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • being a positive role model in your interactions with children and those around them
    • being familiar with, and adhere to, the values of WSCC and be compliant with key regulations, for example, Health and Safety/Safeguarding, standards and procedures
    • being physically able to undertake all the required cooking and cleaning aspects of the role
    • being able to work as part of a committed and dynamic team to achieve.
  • As a Premises officer you will work within a team to provide a range of caretaking and essential facilities services to children’s residential homes.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • repair and maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, electrical and decorating
    • travel between sites and buildings, for which a county vehicle will be provided
    • communicating with children, staff and visitors to the home and to write reports and maintain records as required.
  • Your main responsibilities will be to ensure general cleanliness and hygiene of the home and to be responsive to the changing needs of the homes requirements as directed by the duty manager.

    Key aspects of the role include:

    • hoovering, washing windows, cleaning basins, emptying bins, cleaning residential rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, offices and communal areas
    • being aware of children’s individual needs and preferences in their home and to be aware of current safeguarding procedures
    • communication and interpersonal skills.
