Best Start Family Hubs

Find out what support and advice is available from our Best Start Family Hubs.

Our Best Start Family Hubs support families from pregnancy until a child turns 19, or 25 if they have a Special educational needs and disability (SEND).

You can get advice, access local services and join activities for children and families.

Best Start Family Hubs are part of a national programme that brings together early years, health, education and community services in one place. This makes it easier for families to get the right support at the time.

You can visit any Family Hub to:

  • get information and advice
  • speak to Family Hub staff
  • use social and play spaces
  • take part in activities and events

Support available at Family Hubs

Stay and play sessions

Free sessions for children aged 0 to 5 to play and explore. Activities support early learning and development, while parents and carers can meet other local families. View the what's on section for your local Family Hub.

PEEP learning together sessions

These free 6-week sessions show how everyday activities can support your child's development. Sessions include songs, stories, chatting and activities you can try at home.

Sensory rooms

Our sensory rooms are free to use. They provide a calm space where children can play, explore and enjoy sensory activities. Contact your local Family Hub to book.

Sensory toy libraries

You can borrow sensory toys for free from our toy libraries. Children aged 0 to 5 can use the service, as can children and young people aged 0 to 19 with SEND. Toys include musical instruments, balance boards, crawling tunnels and feelings toys. Find out more about our toy libraries.
