Safeguarding children

How to report concerns about a child's welfare or the behaviour of an adult around children.

Safeguarding

Keeping all children safe is very important, and everyone in the community must help.

Just like children in school, children who learn at home need to be safe. If anyone is worried about a child’s safety, they must tell the right people straight away. The local council must help keep children safe and well. This is the law.

Parents must make sure that any adults helping to teach their child are safe to work with children. Parents should check their background and ask for references and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Concerns about the behaviour of an adult

If you have a concern about the behaviour of an adult who is working or volunteering with children, you can contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO). To do this, visit the West Sussex Safeguarding Children Partnership website.
