Moving into a school or college, whether your child is going for the first time or returning to formal education after a period of home education, can be both unsettling and exciting.
These are some things you might find it useful to think about before your child starts school or college.
Routines
Get into the habit of getting up at the time you will need to so you can get ready for school or college. You might need to change bedtimes to make sure your child gets enough rest.
Practice packing school bags, remembering items such as equipment and PE kit.
Getting to school or college
Think about how your child will get there. Will they need to:
- travel independently?
- use public transport?
- have a particular ticket?
Once you know the answer to these questions, it might help if you practice getting there with your child so that they know what to do.
Curriculum and examinations
You may want to consider following the National Curriculum if you would like your child to attend a school in the future.
If your child is going to school for year 10 or 11 you may want to consider GCSEs information. For instance, discussing GCSE options and exam boards with the school.
School or college expectations
Schools will have rules and policies about behaviour, uniform and the equipment your child will need. Contact the school for more information and financial assistance if you need it.
