Support for learners

West Sussex Adult Learning Service welcomes learners from all backgrounds and is committed to treating people fairly.

If you have a learning difficulty or disability, let us know as soon as possible. We’ll discuss your individual needs and typical ways of working to provide the support you require. This might include reasonable adjustments to help you achieve your learning goals.

If you're finding it hard to start or keep going with your learning, we’re here to help. We can give you information and connect you with support services in areas such as:

  • cost of living
  • childcare funding
  • digital access
  • discounted public transport and journey planning
  • emergency accommodation

See further information below on support available.

Safeguarding and wellbeing

We are committed to creating a safe and supportive learning environment. Our safeguarding team offers confidential advice and support. If you feel unsafe or have concerns, email adultlearning.managemet@westsussex.gov.uk.

Course information and progression advice

Our tutors provide ongoing guidance to help you explore opportunities and plan your next steps - whether that’s further study, training, or employment.

Further support

If you're worried about the costs you might face while attending a course, we may be able to help. Limited funding is available to support adult learners, however support could include:

  • travel costs - up to 50% of your travel expenses, depending on how far you live and your personal circumstances - you must meet our eligibility criteria to receive this support
  • books and equipment - if these are essential for your course
  • educational visits - if they are part of your learning

Speak to your tutor if you’d like more information or think you might be eligible.
