Family learning and parenting

Funded courses for adults and families

This is a brand new area of Adult Education at West Sussex County Council that is still under construction. However, we are excited to introduce you to this programme focusing on families learning together.

We aim to deliver courses that encourage families to communicate and have fun with one another whilst developing confidence and new skills. Families will try a range of engaging activities whilst making new friends and sharing experiences.

Some examples of Family Learning courses we are working on include:

  • cooking together as a family
  • family first aid
  • family fun in nature
  • introduction to phonics
  • supporting your young writers
  • family fun with maths
  • the English education system
  • getting ready for primary school and secondary school.

We are also creating courses to help parents feel confident in their parenting decisions and to overcome any barriers you might face. Some examples include:

  • understanding your teenager
  • helping your child with their self-esteem
  • understanding and helping your anxious child
  • family resilience
  • 5 to Thrive
  • tantrums and meltdowns
  • autism awareness.

Courses will be delivered across West Sussex by specially trained tutors at a time that suits you. Many of our courses enable families to attend together so that all can benefit.

This website will be updated regularly with upcoming courses and start dates. If you have any questions please email familylearning@westsussex.gov.uk.
