Our bus plan
We created the plan to improve bus services in West Sussex together with our neighbouring councils, local bus operators, other partners, and funding from the Department for Transport.
Since its launch in 2022, our Bus Service Improvement Programme has been delivering offers and schemes that directly benefit bus passengers and encourage more eco-friendly travel.
The programme supports the priorities in Our Council Plan of creating a sustainable and prosperous economy and helping people to fulfil their potential, underpinned by our commitment to protecting the environment.
The programme has so far achieved:
- over half a million journeys taken by young people using the 16 to 20 Bus Saver discount
- over 21,700 journeys using Book-a-Bus
- 153 bus stops improved, and 421 Real Time Passenger Info (RTPI) displays installed across the county
- infrastructures that prioritise buses through a bus lane extension and a “Traffic Light Priority” programme
- the introduction of the Service 500 connecting residents and communities in Barnham, Chichester, Littlehampton, Tangmere and Yapton
