Draft Transport Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) for the South East engagement

In late 2025, Transport for the South East (TfSE) invited West Sussex County Council to review the draft SIP and provide feedback.

TfSE’s SIP provides a regional framework for investment in strategic transport infrastructure and policy interventions over the next 25 years. It sets out the long-term programme for investment, that is required to deliver the ambitions of the Transport Strategy for the South East.

The third cycling and walking investment strategy (CWIS3) consultation

The Department for Transport launched a consultation in November 2025 on the third cycling and walking investment strategy (CWIS3). It includes the vision, objectives and how local authorities will provide active travel capital and revenue programmes.

A259 Hove to Portslade active travel scheme

In mid-2025, Brighton & Hove City Council consulted on plans for the A259 Hove to Portslade active travel scheme which have been split into two phases from Fourth Avenue to Wharf Road and from Wharf Road to the city’s western boundary.

The proposals would link to active travel improvements being developed by the county council for the A259 between Shoreham and the county boundary.

East Sussex County Council Draft Rail and Freight Strategy consultations

In mid-2025, East Sussex County Council asked for public feedback on its proposed Rail and Freight Strategies for 2025 to 2050.

The draft rail strategy describes how the council plans to improve passenger rail travel in East Sussex.

The draft freight strategy explains how the council aims to improve how freight is moved around the county.

Draft Transport Strategy for the South East consultation

In early 2025, Transport for the South East (TfSE) consulted on a Draft Transport Strategy for the South East. The Draft Transport Strategy has been developed to reflect recent national and local policy changes, changes in travel patterns and demand.

It identifies 5 missions that will address the key challenges our region faces over the next 25 years. These are:

  • strategic connectivity
  • resilience
  • inclusion and integration
  • decarbonisation
  • sustainable growth
