About growth deals

Growth deals are pledges made between the county council, district and borough councils and a range of public and private sector partners.

Each 5-year Growth Deal identifies a set of priority projects to bring local improvements for West Sussex residents, businesses and visitors. We take projects forward through agreed growth programmes, ensuring delivery is coordinated, transparent and aligned with local priorities.

Growth deals:

  • support local economic growth, including the delivery of new homes and new jobs
  • attract and align public and private sector investment
  • provide a clear framework for collaborative working between partners
  • help ensure infrastructure keeps pace with growth

Key achievements from previous growth deals

Since their introduction, growth deals across West Sussex have helped to:

  • unlock and speed up the delivery of new housing and employment sites, including major allocation and regeneration sites in Crawley, Worthing, Adur and Arun
  • support town centre regeneration and improvements to public spaces, such as:
    • Worthing town centre
    • Crawley town centre
    • seafront and high street improvements in coastal communities
  • invest in strategic transport, digital and utilities infrastructure to enable growth, including improvements along key corridors such as:
    • the A259
    • schemes supporting access to stations and employment areas
    • infrastructure to support new development
  • bring together local authorities, government and private investors around shared priorities, helping to align multiple funding sources and delivery partners
  • provide confidence and certainty for long term investment decisions, enabling schemes to progress from planning to delivery

These achievements have laid strong foundations for the next phase of delivery across the county.

Refresh of growth deals to 2030

All growth deals have been refreshed and extended to 2030. This ensures they continue to reflect local priorities, respond to changing economic conditions, and support long-term sustainable growth across West Sussex.

The refreshed growth deals build on previous achievements and set out a renewed programme of investment and partnership working for the rest of the decade.
