Better bus stops, better journeys
Real time passenger information display (RTPI)
What is RTPI?
These are display systems that provide up-to-the-minute updates on public transport services. They show live arrival and departure times at bus stops, train stations and online platforms, helping you plan journeys more confidently.
Most of these displays also feature special audio facility to make bus travel easier for passengers with visual impairments, learning or reading difficulties.

RTPI expansion
A total of 852 RTPI screens have been installed across the county, 421 of which were installed through BSIP with a further 128 screens to be installed between 2025 to 2026. Click through our map to see the latest progress.
Bus stop improvements
We’re on a mission to make your bus journeys better, starting with the bus stops.
We’re upgrading bus stops across the county to make your travel experience more comfortable, accessible and connected.
So far, 155 locations have received a fresh new look and there’s more to come.
What's included
Included in the upgrades are:
- remodelled kerbs and improved waiting areas for safer, easier boarding
- new footway connections and crossings between stops, boosting accessibility
- refreshed road markings
- installation of real-time passenger information (RTPI) displays to keep you informed
- resurfaced roads and localised carriageway improvements for smoother journeys
- redesigned bus stops and improved road layouts to help buses pull in and out more efficiently - reducing delays and improving journey times
Whether you're heading to work, school, or just exploring your neighbourhood, these upgrades are designed to make your journey safer, smoother and more convenient from the moment you step out the door.
Bus shelter installations
Improving bus shelters in local areas
We’re working with bus operators, parish and local councils, to identify bus routes and locations that don’t currently have shelters. By adding shelters and upgrading stops where bus services have improved, we're making travel easier and more comfortable.
These changes help attract more passengers and support reliable services over time.
Where will the bus shelters be installed?
This pilot programme begins with installing bus shelters on the new Stagecoach 500 bus service route. Check our BSIP map to follow our journey.
Who maintains the bus shelters under this programme?
Bus shelters are owned, managed and maintained by the local district, borough or parish council.
