Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG)

All Bus Service Operators Grant received from the Department for Transport in respect of County Council tendered public bus services is passed on to the bus operators as part of their contract prices.

COVID-19 Bus Service Support Grant (CBSSG)

The CBSSG was provided by the Department for Transport to local transport authorities for 12 weeks from 17 March 2020. West Sussex County Council received £66,308 to help support tendered bus services. This was used to cover some of the shortfall in bus operators’ fares income during this period, additional cleaning and PPE, and to support community transport.

Commercially operated bus services received similar financial support which was paid directly to bus operators by the Department for Transport.

The Local Transport Authority COVID-19 Bus Service Support Grant (CBSSG) restart scheme

This scheme provided follow-on funding of £1,014,538 for the period between 9 June 2020 to 31 August 2021. This was similarly used to cover some of the shortfall in bus operators’ fares income during this period, additional cleaning and PPE, and to support community transport.

The COVID-19 grants to the County Council are used in accordance with conditions as set out by the Department for Transport and are subject to audit.
