Press release date: 10 January 2023

Work is progressing well to repair the damaged embankment at Wiston Bends, on the A283 Washington Road.

Stabilisation work, by contractor Landbuild, includes installing rock-filled gabions along the foot of the embankment, which was damaged in a vehicle accident. Other works will include installing a new vehicle safety barrier.

A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “Temporary traffic lights have been redeployed at the Wiston Bends on the A283 Washington Road so stabilisation works can progress.

“Safety is always our top priority and the traffic lights are essential for the safety of both road users and the workforce. They control traffic so only the westbound lane is used on this section of road during the embankment stabilisation works.

“We apologise for any delays and would urge road users to allow extra time for their journeys.”

The embankment was damaged in the accident in mid-November last year.
