The County Proclamation of His Majesty King Charles III will take place this Sunday, 11 September 2022, on the steps of County Hall in Chichester.
The public event will begin at 1pm and the anticipated running order will be:
• An introduction by the Lord Lieutenant, Lady Emma Barnard
• The formal Reading of the Proclamation by the High Sheriff of West Sussex, Mr James Whitmore on the steps of County Hall. He will then proclaim God Save the King.
• The national anthem will then be sung to conclude the event
Other local Proclamations are due to be held around the county on Sunday, from 2pm onwards.
Local dignitaries invited to attend include: West Sussex County Council’s Chairman Pete Bradbury, Vice Chairman Sujan Wickremaratchi and Leader Paul Marshall; The local Mayors and Chairs of the District and Borough councils; Sussex Police Deputy Chief Constable David McLaren and Police Commissioner Katy Bourne; West Sussex Chief Fire Officer Sabrina Cohen-Hatton; the Bishop of Chichester, Rt Revd Dr Martin Warner; the Bishop of Arundel and Brighton, Rt Revd Richard Moth; Resident Judge representative, HH Judge Christine Henson QC; Commanding Officer of Regiments linked to the County, Lt Col David Butt; the West Sussex Members of Parliament.
Members of the public are invited to attend the historic event and pedestrian access is through the front of County Hall from 12 mid-day, access from West Street, Chichester, PO19 1RQ.
A British Sign Language Interpreter will be present.
The County Proclamation on Sunday follows the Principal Proclamation on Saturday morning at St James’s Palace.
Following Buckingham Palace’s announcement of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, 8 September 2022, a period of National Mourning has started and will continue until the end of the day of the State Funeral.
