New transport proposals aim to improve journeys in the Durrington area

Residents are invited to help shape a new set of transport proposals designed to improve journeys in the Durrington area.

The proposals focus on making bus journeys faster and more reliable, improving crossing facilities and addressing congestion to provide better journeys to work, schools, local shops and Durrington-on-Sea Station.

The scheme is being developed as part of the delivery of the West Sussex Transport Plan, which supports the council’s priorities for healthier communities, a sustainable environment and a prosperous economy.

In 2024, West Sussex County Council consulted on a range of transport improvements between Durrington and Goring. Feedback from that consultation has helped shape a new set of proposals focused on the Durrington area, including The Boulevard. Now, the council is seeking views from residents on the latest designs.

The proposed improvements include:

  • Improved pedestrian crossings to make walking safer and more convenient
  • Bus priority measures on The Boulevard to reduce bus delays
  • Junction improvements to reduce congestion and improve road safety

Cllr Erika Woodhurst-Trueman, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at West Sussex County Council, said: "We know that traffic congestion, noise and air pollution are real concerns for local communities. These proposals are designed to support better journeys for everyone by improving public transport, making walking, wheeling and cycling more attractive, and also helping ease traffic flow.

"We want to hear residents' views to help shape the future of these proposals, so I would encourage anyone with an interest in the area to take part in the consultation."

Residents can view the full details and complete the online survey at: https://yourvoice.westsussex.gov.uk/durrington-journeys

Drop-in events will also be held to give people the opportunity to view the plans in person and speak to members of the project team:

  • Monday 9 November,  4pm to 7pm at Durrington High School
    • Durrington High School (The Pavilion), The Boulevard, Worthing BN13 1JX
  • Thursday 12 November, 3pm to 7pm at Worthing Indoor Bowls Club
    • 1 Field Place, The Boulevard, Worthing BN13 1NP

Feedback from this consultation will help us to refine the designs and determine next steps.

Although the scheme is at an early stage and subject to securing funding for delivery, feedback from this consultation will help us to refine the designs and determine next steps.

The consultation closes at 23:55 on Monday 30th November 2026.
