Help us to shape the future of Active Travel in West Sussex

West Sussex County Council is asking its residents to help shape the future of active travel in the county.

We have launched a public consultation on the way we travel because we want to know how our residents feel about our proposals that aim to improve walking, wheeling and cycling facilities across the county.

We are publishing two important documents on the way we travel and want to hear your views on:

  • The draft West Sussex Active Travel Strategy, which sets out our vision and goals for active travel in the county for the next decade and beyond;
  • The draft West Sussex Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), which identifies key locations where we want to invest in active travel.

Your feedback on these documents will help direct the final versions, which we aim to publish in early 2024, to guide how we improve and implement facilities which make walking, wheeling, and cycling easier and more desirable option for all. This is part of the aim outlined in our Council Plan of enabling safe and effective transport options to offer choice and convenience to our residents to enhance the environment and enable economic growth.

Cllr Joy Dennis, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “We would like to hear from people and organisations about our plans for encouraging more walking, wheeling, and cycling, particularly for shorter journeys. We believe that by improving these facilities, we can make travel safer for all road users, help reduce congestion and improve air quality on our roads. We would also like your feedback on the six routes that have been identified as being high priority for development and funding.”

You can find out more about our plans by visiting the project website: https://yourvoice.westsussex.gov.uk/active-travel-strategy

On the website you can read the draft Active Travel Strategy and LCWIP in full and have your say by completing a survey. The consultation survey closes on Wednesday, 15 November, 2023
