West Sussex County Council is inviting residents to share feedback on proposed improvements to walking, wheeling and cycling routes between Crawley Town Centre and Manor Royal Business Park, with a focus on Northgate Avenue.
The scheme has been developed in response to growing pressure on Crawley’s transport network and the need to provide safer, more sustainable travel options. As the largest town in West Sussex and a key economic hub, with Manor Royal Business District and Gatwick Airport nearby, Crawley experiences high levels of traffic and congestion which are expected to increase as the town continues to grow.
By encouraging more people to walk and cycle, particularly for shorter journeys, the scheme aims to reduce congestion, improve air quality and support healthier communities, while also improving access to jobs and services. The consultation forms part of the wider Crawley Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan.
Proposals include:
- A new segregated two-way cycle track, separated from traffic for added safety
- Improved crossings to make it easier to get around on foot, by bike or with mobility aids
- A reduced 30mph speed limit to help create a calmer, safer street
If delivered, the improvements will connect with existing town centre upgrades, creating a more joined-up network between key destinations such as Crawley College, the Town Hall and Manor Royal.
Your feedback will help shape the final designs and future funding bids, so your say matters. The consultation is open until 11:55pm on Wednesday 5 August.
A drop-in event will also be held:
- Thursday 2 July 2026, 4pm to 7pm
- Northgate Community Centre, 23 Barnfield Rd, Northgate, Crawley RH10 8DS
