West Sussex County Council and the local NHS are inviting carers, and anyone who knows or supports a carer, to share their views on the priorities for the refreshed Carers Strategy. The strategy sets out how organisations will work together to identify and support family and friend carers across the county and is now being reviewed and updated.
As part of this update, we are asking whether the following priorities are right and what else matters most to carers:
- Greater recognition of carers and better access to support.
- More targeted help at each stage of the caring journey to prevent carer breakdown and enable the best care.
- Better understanding of out-of-hours options and back-up support.
- Stronger identification of, and support for, carers from vulnerable communities.
- Action to limit financial hardship linked to caring.
- Reducing isolation among carers and young carers.
Councillor Amanda Jupp, Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services, said: “Carers carry out a vital role supporting their family members, friends and neighbours. We would like to hear directly from all carers and anyone who works with them as to whether these are the right priorities and what would make the biggest difference in day-to-day life. By sharing your views as we refresh this strategy, you will not only be helping shape the direction of our services but also ensuring that we support carers in the best way possible.”
Everyone in West Sussex is welcome to take part—including carers, young people, professionals and local organisations. To register your interest in being part of strategy development or to find out more, please email carercommissioning@westsussex.gov.uk or call 03302 226 111.
