By-election results for three West Sussex County Council divisions

The by-election results for St Leonard's Forest, Burgess Hill North and Hassocks & Burgess Hill South divisions have been declared.

 

Sam Raby, Jane Davey and Erika Woodhurst-Trueman have been elected to West Sussex County Council to represent the divisions of St Leonard’s Forest, Burgess Hill North and Hassocks & Burgess Hill South respectively. 

Three by-elections were held on Thursday 5 June 2025 to fill a trio of vacancies on the county council, following the resignations of councillors Katie Nagel, Stuart Condie and Kirsty Lord. 

The results of the St Leonard’s Forest division by-election are as follows:

•    Sam Raby (Liberal Democrats) – 644 votes – ELECTED
•    Robert Nye (Reform UK) – 584 votes
•    Damian Stuart (Conservatives) – 401 votes
•    Andrew Finnegan (Green Party) – 259 votes
•    Sara Loewenthal (Labour) – 94 votes

The total number of votes cast in the by-election was 1,982. There were three rejected ballot papers and the turnout was 23%.

The results of the Burgess Hill North division by-election are as follows:

•    Jane Davey (Liberal Democrats) – 1,088 votes – ELECTED
•    Tim Cooper (Reform UK) – 707 votes
•    Mustak Miah (Conservatives) – 618 votes
•    Paul Woods (Green Party) – 153 votes
•    Jake Tennant (Labour) – 92 votes

The total number of votes cast in the by-election was 2,658. There were four rejected ballot papers and the turnout was 26%.

The results of the Hassocks & Burgess Hill South division by-election are as follows:

•    Erika Woodhurst-Trueman (Liberal Democrats) – 1,694 votes – ELECTED
•    Pete Bradshaw (Reform UK) – 762 votes
•    Eliza-Jane Brazil (Conservatives) – 310 votes
•    Sue Kelly (Green Party) – 175 votes
•    Martin McCabe (Labour) – 123 votes

The total number of votes cast in the by-election was 3,064. There were four rejected ballot papers and the turnout was 31%.
