WSCC EarlyBird Programme run by Portage West Sussex and the National Autistic Society (Early Bird)
About
This is a West Sussex County Council service.
The West Sussex Portage Service run the National Autistic Society EarlyBird Programme for families who have a pre-school autistic child. This is a 6-week session programme delivered across a school term. Working with up to 8 families at a time, we bring parents/ carers together for group training and discussion. The training block may also include a home visit with one of the trainers. The course covers key areas such as communication, understanding autistic experiences, supporting daily living and more.
What we do
- The programme is presented over 6 sessions one morning a week and 1 optional home visit. One of the main benefits of the programme is meeting other parents.
- The EarlyBird professionals who present the course share many years of experience and aim to put parents at ease and make the programme an enjoyable experience for everyone.
- The EarlyBird Parent Handbook is used in the course and will be provided by the facilitators. The course is free for families but a voluntary donation of £20 would be appreciated to cover the cost of the course materials.
- Referrals come directly to the local Portage Team from the Child Development Centre, parents and families known to Portage.
