Volunteering in the community

Discover volunteering opportunities to become a volunteer.

Volunteering with West Sussex County Council

You will not get paid for volunteering but there are still lots of reasons to get out into the community or the countryside to do a worthwhile job.

You’ll usually be working with a group of people, so volunteering is a great opportunity to make friends and improve your confidence and skills.

There are different types of opportunities, depending on what interests you, for example, community volunteering might involve tasks such as:

  • creating habitats for nature
  • clearing paths and footways
  • maintaining community buildings

Volunteer parish path inspectors are volunteers who walk along an assigned route to check that the Public Rights of Way are clear and safe for others to use.

Or, if you prefer to stay indoors, library volunteers take on a range of tasks for the library service around the county.
