Record Office and archives

Anyone is welcome to visit us free of charge. You do not need to give us prior notice, unless you wish to book a car parking space.
Our friendly and helpful staff can provide services such as photocopying, scanning, research and conservation advice.
From census records to maps, the Record Office holds a vast range of sources stored on more than 25 miles of shelving.
The Record Office is the main centre for family history in the county, with expert staff to advise you.
About us

At the Record Office we collect, preserve and provide access to the documentary and recorded heritage of the county of West Sussex.

Outreach and events

The Record Office engages in a wide range of 'outreach' activities, from coffee time workshops for new family historians to the publication of books, pamphlets and DVDs. We are also keen to recruit volunteers to help in the archives.
